Air Emissions Fee for Major Sources
All major sources of air emissions are assessed air emissions fees, which are based upon the facility’s actual air emissions.
What it is:
A fee based on actual emissions from major (also known as Title V or Class I) industrial air emission sources. The Air Division provides the major source an invoice of the fees due based upon its actual emissions reported in their annual emission inventory report.
How the fee is used:
The fees collected are used to support the Air Division’s permitting and compliance programs for major air emission sources and air emission sources that have taken limitations to avoid major source classification.

Petroleum Release Remedial Action Fee
Used to support the agency activities primarily involved in cleaning up releases of petroleum.
What it is:
A $90 fee per registered underground tank storing petroleum is collected through the State Fire Marshall’s office. A fee on each gallon sold ($0.009 on gasoline and $0.003 on diesel) is collected by the Nebraska Department of Revenue.
How the fee is used:
The fees are used by the Petroleum Remediation Section to investigate and clean up releases of petroleum to the soil and ground water. Some financial assistance is provided to persons responsible for cleaning up their sites, and orphan sites (responsible person is unknown) are cleaned up by the Department.

What it is
: A fee of $1.25 per ton fee is assessed for all waste disposed in municipal solid waste landfills.
How the fee is used
: Fifty percent goes to DEQ’s Waste Reduction and Recycling Grants Program as a source of grants for local recycling and waste reduction projects. Fifty percent is used to support the operating costs of the Integrated Waste Management program.
