Automobile and Light Duty Truck Surface Coating Operations -  Subpart MM

Applicability: eCFR Subpart MM [ecfr.gov]

This subpart applies to:
  1. Affected facilities at automobile or light-duty truck assembly plants that commence construction modification, or reconstruction after Oct 5, 1979.
Affected facilities:
  1. Prime coat operations;
  2. Guide coat operations;
  3. Top coat operations.
Modifications do not include (by themselves):
  1. Changes as a result of model year changovers or switches to larger cars;
  2. Changes in the application of coatings to increase coating film thickness.

Not subject to this subpart:
  1. Operations used to coat plastic body components or all-plastic automobile or light-duty truck bodies on separate coating lines.
If plastic parts are installed into the metal parts prior to coating of metal, the metal coating operations are still subject to this subpart.
