Pollution Prevention (P2)
What is P2?
Pollution prevention (P2) information and on-site assistance to state citizens and businesses is provided through the Environmental Assistance Division of the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. The division operates under the guidance of the federal Pollution Prevention Act and the DEQ’s Pollution Prevention Plan and Implementation Strategy.

The goal of the Pollution Prevention Act is to reduce waste at the source, before it is generated. DEQ’s P2 program is designed to facilitate the incorporation of pollution prevention concepts and principles into the daily operations of government agencies, businesses, manufacturers, nonprofit organizations, and individuals. DEQ’s P2 program addresses a variety of waste issues, prevention strategies and conservation measures.

P2 is also a vehicle for “reinventing” traditional agency programs and devising innovative alternative strategies to protect the public health and the environment. In addition, DEQ is incorporating P2 into programs that encourage environmentally preferable purchasing and corporate eco-efficiency. P2 is a building block for the private sector’s environmental performance and sustainability.

This web site provides general information about P2 practices, describes the array of P2 programs and initiatives administered by DEQ, other agencies and organizations, and provides contacts and resources for further information.
