Site Summary:
This site is located on the west edge of South Sioux City within the Missouri River flood plain. Subsurface deposits are alluvial river valley and consist of clay, silt and sand. The topography is relatively flat with Groundwater at 17-19 feet below the surface flowing northeasterly. NDEQ learned of this site in 1991 when a release of about 3,000 gallons of diesel was reported to the Department. This remediation will be for diesel free product only. Mr. Carlson does not need to know that you may be visiting the site.

Site Specifications:
The current property owner, Ted Carlson, is a businessman in South Sioux City. Inside the building that partially sits over the plume are several mint condition restored cars and tractors. This building also houses his motor coach. Ted is fully aware of the situation at this site, and he will work with the consultant and seems pleased that this site is about to be cleaned up. The fiber optics installation company has many pieces of equipment behind the building and has the lease for the back lot until June. Ted will have them move the equipment if needed.

Ted Carlson stated that the release may have been much larger than 3,000 gallons. The persons operating the tank thought the fuel was being stolen so they installed security cameras at the site looking for the alleged thieves. Not finding any, they finally realized they had a substantial leak, probably through a pressurized pump system.

You are welcome to speak with Ted as far as any remediation technology ideas you may have. Ted will have a limited amount of time to spend with you because of the several businesses he owns in the area.

The monitoring period for this Contract is one year.
