First round of Climate Pollution Reduction stakeholder workgroup sessions complete

The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) has completed the first round of stakeholder workgroup sessions for the Climate Pollution Reduction Planning Program.

Thank you to all who attended the meetings so far. There were more than 200 total participants during these first stakeholder workgroup sessions.

These online sessions aim to consider greenhouse gas emission reduction measures in various sectors of the economy. Information gathered from these and future public meetings will help NDEE develop its Priority Climate Action Plan (PCAP), due to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency by March 1, 2024. The ideas discussed at the stakeholder meetings were helpful and are key to developing a PCAP that best fits Nebraska’s needs.

Each sector has been scheduled to meet two times – once to brainstorm ideas to reduce greenhouse gases, and a second time to discuss how those ideas can be measurable and scalable solutions for potential inclusion in Nebraska’s PCAP.

The remaining meetings include:
  • Transportation Sector – Wednesday, Dec. 13, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Industry/Waste and Wastewater – Wednesday, Dec. 13, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Agriculture/Natural and Working Lands – Thursday, Dec. 14, 10-11:30 a.m.
  • Energy Production – Monday, Dec. 18, 2-3:30 p.m.
  • Buildings/Housing/Communities – Tuesday, Dec. 19, 10-11:30 a.m.

Registration for each meeting is open until the start of the event.

NDEE will post notes from past meetings as they become available. This information, along with the full meeting schedule, a link to register and a downloadable information packet, can be found on NDEE’s website: http://dee.ne.gov/ndeqprog.nsf/onweb/cprg.

Any Nebraskan who is interested can submit ideas for greenhouse gas reduction measures using this web link: https://unl.az1.qualtrics.com/jfe/form/SV_7V47CJQMxvkerbg. These ideas will be submitted for state review, and may open the door to funding that will help the state implement the ideas outlined in its PCAP.

Following the stakeholder workgroup sessions, NDEE will hold in-person public meetings at several locations throughout the state. These meetings are anticipated to begin in January and will discuss the ideas developed through the sector stakeholder meetings for input from the general public. More information will be available at a later date.
