The Nebraska Department of Environment and Energy (NDEE) is committed to reducing childhood exposure to lead from drinking water. NDEE has funding available for schools – public, private and parochial – and licensed child care facilities to remove and replace water faucets, fountains, and filler stations that have sampled and resulted in a lead detection.

This funding is through the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Water Infrastructure Improvements for the Nation Act (WIIN), America’s Water Infrastructure Act (AWIA), and the Infrastructure Investment and Job Act (IIJA).

The documents above provide answers to frequently asked questions schools and child care facilities may have about the Lead Testing and Reduction Grant Program.

To be eligible for remediation funds, schools and child care facilities must have already sampled their drinking water for lead. Schools and child care facilities should contact their local health department to request test kits. Participating health departments have educational material that can support schools and child care programs with interpreting results and guidance on the following steps of action.
