Revisions to the Environmental Protection Agency’s Lead and Copper Rule will require public drinking water systems to submit a Lead Service Line Inventory (LSLI). All Community and Non-Transient Non-Community systems must develop an inventory of all service lines and classify each line as one of the four:
§ Lead
§ Non-Lead
§ Galvanized
§ Unknown This includes both residential and commercial service lines, regardless of ownership and use. Those developing the inventory must include the methods of determination to support the classification of each line, such as system records, Lead Ban, visual Inspection, etc. The inventory should start with system or historical records, building records, county assessor, age of the homes, etc. The inventory should also indicate if there are any lead connectors present on each service line.
The Lead Service Line Inventories are due Oct. 16, 2024. Systems must complete the inventory template (available for download at the top of this page) based on the system type and the current information available. Additional copies of this form may be needed to capture all service connections. Additionally, the optional flyer available for download above can be used to gather additional information from homeowners. If they own their own service line, then they may have records of the materials present that the utility does not have.
